Henderson Engineers hosts quarterly all-company meetings. During this year’s summer meeting, we needed to get employees engaged with our Purpose — “to create environments where people can reach their full potential” — which was introduced last year. We were struggling to get people to embrace it, so marketing was charged with bringing it to life and making it resonate.
We determined the most authentic solution was to collect stories of how Henderson has already empowered employees to reach their full potential. We proposed asking, “What has Henderson allowed you to do…to be more or do more?” and then encouraging employees to post responses on social media using the hashtag: #PoweredByHenderson.
We had just one week, so we had to generate participation quickly. We:
Created surprise “power” desk-drops, leaving notecards on desks that reinforced our messaging:
The Fuel Up, Friend drop included a PowerBar & Powerade
The With Great Power drop included a cell phone charger
Had a coffee truck help employees power through the afternoon
Posted “power” quotes around the office (chalkboards and mirrors)
Coordinated efforts with 12 offices to ensure a consistent experience.
The responses were astounding. Our goal was for 100 people to share stories, and we collected more than 150, surpassing goal by 50%. Employees shared intimate stories on everything they’ve been able to accomplish just by being part of the Henderson family. And they were sharing them on their own pages, which widened our audience. We are now a stronger community aligned around a common Purpose.
