Co-Owner/Founder: “I want to put out a book about our first ten years.”
Marketing Coordinator #1: “Great! What specifically would you like to see? What would you like it to say?”
C-O/F: “Hmmmm…not sure.”
MC #2: “Um, ok. We’ll brainstorm. When is this due?”
C-O/F: “November”
MCs #1 & 2 (in unison): “That’s less than six months away!”
C-O/F: “Yep.”
So began the daunting journey of the Kamus + Keller 10th Anniversary Yearbook. Two plucky, newly-hired coordinators and an even greener graphics intern teamed up to produce the book, intended as a celebration of our firm’s history, its crazy team of designers and architects, and the projects we’ve proudly produced.
As this was an internal piece, efforts such as identifying the target audience and calculating ROI were (blessedly!) unnecessary, allowing the “yearbook staff” to simply have fun with the creation of the book. Following a Past-Present-Future structure anchored by in-depth interviews with the firm’s namesakes, the book culls project photography, case studies, candid workplace shots, industry events, and staff Q&As in a quirky visual style.
Each book was hand-bound in our firm’s vibrant, brand-standard green (the fabric of which was serendipitously discovered in the back of the bookbinder’s decades-old textile shelves). Distributed during our Thanksgiving Luncheon to thunderous applause, followed by an hour of silence while everyone pored over each page, the result is a gloriously messy, honest and fearless look into what it means to be a part of a team dedicated to bringing the ordinary to the extraordinary.
