Award Criteria

 

Applications are evaluated strictly on the quality of the content and thoroughness of the responses to the criteria. Narratives must be expressed in a concise yet compelling manner.

The application consists of four sections:

  • Section 1: Firm information
  • Section 2:  Questionnaire
  • Section 3:  Signature
  • Section 4:  Media relations information. The information provided in this section is not accessible to the jury. It will only be published if the nominee is selected as the SMPS Marketing Innovation Firm of the Year Award recipient.

Criteria

The following criteria are required for all applicants to complete. The corresponding word count that is associated with each response section is listed below in red.

Marketing Innovation
Summarize and provide examples of your firm's innovative ideas, processes, programs, and/or services that are demonstrated by measurable results and have brought value to your firm, your industry, and/or to the AEC profession. Descriptions of actions and results are required.  (Limit: 700 words)

Examples:

  • What did you/your team do that was innovative, transformative, and/or disruptive?
  • Describe your initial goals and the results of the innovation.
  • Give examples of innovation and how that led to a successful ROI outcome.
  • How did you measure success?

Examples must have been completed in the last 2 years, be sure to include the time frame.

 

Marketing initiated and Led Firm
Summarize and provide examples of how your firm's marketing team participated in and/or led the initiative to create results. (Limit: 500 words) 

Examples:

  • Describe your marketing team's responsibilities in the initiative to create results.
  • Describe how your firm's marketing team led and/or collaborated for this initiative internally and externally.

 

Marketing Communications
Firm must have a project that has been recognized for its excellence in marketing and/or communications at the SMPS chapter, regional, or Society level as part of a marketing communications awards type competition in the past five years. Provide details regarding your firm's past creation of award-winning marketing and communications. (Limit: 250 words) 

Examples:

  • 2022, Finalist, SMPS MCA competition, Advertising
  • 2021, Second place, SMPS Colorado MEA competition, Website

 

SMPS Engagement
Highlight the SMPS engagement of the team members who worked on the innovative initiative.  Please distinguish between Society, regional, and chapter-level positions/programs the team participated in the last 5 years. (Limit: 500 words) 

Examples:

  • Education program speaking or writing opportunities
  • Volunteer roles by SMPS members in the last 5 years (i.e., Society, regional, chapter-level positions/programs)
  • SMPS sponsorship
