Creative Brief
In engineering, we spend our careers designing the infrastructure and communities that connect us. Yet some of the most important things we build are conversations.
A mentor offering encouragement. A leader challenging the status quo. A colleague reminding someone that their voice belongs in the room.
These moments unfold quietly in meetings, hallways, and the space between questions and answers. Yet they shape careers, build confidence, and influence who leads next.
For women in engineering, those moments are too rare and too important to leave to chance. With the industry still facing a gender gap in technical leadership and recruiting, K+W launched "Conversations That Build" for Women in Engineering Week 2025 on a simple premise: the conversations that happen inside a firm shape who stays, who leads, and who chooses to join.
Eight voices—spanning different job titles, backgrounds, and years of experience—sat down on camera to share what they had learned about mentorship, confidence, and representation. One pushed past imposter syndrome through peer support. Another called for cultural reform with the same rigor applied to engineering problems. A third showed how diverse perspectives strengthen not just culture, but the work itself.
The results—female applicants grew 260% year over year, and women represented 32% of K+W's hires in 2025, proof that when a firm makes its culture visible, the right people notice.
The future of engineering is shaped not only by what we build, but by the voices we choose to elevate.
