Creative Brief
Kitchell acknowledges the underrepresentation of women in the construction industry as research shows that women represent only 10.8% of the workforce in the United States. With this in mind, Kitchell spearheaded a Women in Construction campaign that championed diversity, equity and inclusion.
In March 2023, Kitchell featured professional women from all corners of our company in four short video interviews. Women shared their experiences, diverse voices and perspectives shaping Kitchell's dynamic culture. These women offered unique insights into their experiences, challenges, and triumphs in the construction industry. The videos included custom graphics and images which were shared on Kitchell’s intranet homepage and social media channels. Kitchell also held WIC events throughout our California, Arizona and Texas offices. Events included a virtual panel discussion on gender bias, a project site tour for students at MiraCosta College, networking events and a panel discussion with various Kitchell women titled “Let’s Talk Diversity.” Other noteworthy events included a panel discussion at Fresno State and book reading sessions for eight classrooms at San Juan USD where Kitchell employees read and donated children’s books about women in construction. Kitchell recognizes there is no better way to attract future diverse talent than to introduce kids to career possibilities in construction at an early age. A custom flyer was created to highlight all our events and custom hard hat stickers were distributed as well.
We received great feedback from these events and the impact extends beyond Kitchell’s walls. By prioritizing DEI, Kitchell’s workforce composition includes 28% of women.
