Creative Brief

Though all jobsites have a Site-Specific Safety Plan that they follow in the event of a crisis, entity-specific and core services support for handling crises has become increasingly more complex since Barton Malow transformed from a single company into a family of companies in 2020, growing from 1,500 to nearly 3,500 team members. Noting this growth, and that Barton Malow’s Crisis Incident Response Plan hadn’t been updated in years, more clarity and direction were needed on how crises are supported beyond the jobsite.

Working with Sabo PR, and Barton Malow’s Safety and Risk Management teams, Barton Malow’s Branding + Communications team developed a robust Crisis Incident Response Manual and plan for the enterprise to follow when managing crises. Deliverables included:

  • Easy-to-understand Crisis Incident Response Guidelines that place potential incidents into three buckets - Low, Moderate, and High Severity – and offer direction on how to manage such incidents based on their seriousness.
  • Low and Moderate and a High Severity Response Plan that detail proper protocol that should be taken as teams move through the crisis.
  • A Crisis Response Action Plan checklist.
  • Informing project teams and team members how to set alerts and join groups through the AlertMedia Emergency Communication Platform to stay informed.

While these new guidelines do not circumvent existing Safety Manuals or Site-Specific Safety Plans, they were purposefully created to help teams be better prepared for the unthinkable. Since becoming available in fall 2023, they’ve already worked to the benefit of Barton Malow in various situations.
