During the COVID-19 pandemic people were working from home and email marketing increased. Our inboxes became inundated with emails, so much so that we found ourselves deleting more than what we were consuming. As people physically went back to the office, email marketing didn’t go away.
Our team rethought how we wanted to showcase completed projects and firm news with targeted audiences in a way that was less likely to be “deleted”. We know that print pieces with exceptional photography sitting on your desk are much more difficult to ignore than an email from an unfamiliar sender. When you couple these well-designed pieces with consistency, the messages and even our logo became recognizable and were less likely to be disregarded as “spam”.
As we looked at our marketing calendar, we decided monthly postcards would be a great way to consistently deliver Somerville messaging. We matched each postcard with events of the month. For example, if we had an upcoming education conference, the postcard would contain information about our booth number, information about presentations we were giving, prize giveaways, and feature an education project. The postcards would be mailed to our current and prospective education market list.
The response from this campaign has been amazing. We have heard people say that they keep our postcards for inspiration, that they stand out because they are one of the only things they get in the mail (other than invoices!), and we have even received a new business call solely because of the postcards.
