Since its start in 1946, Benesch has transformed from a one-office civil engineering company to a multidisciplinary professional services firm with over 950 employees and a hybrid work environment. This growth has enabled Benesch to support more clients, provide more services and impact more communities. It’s also meant that connecting with coworkers and learning about new projects can no longer be done simply by gathering around the watercooler.
To encourage employee connections while embracing the hybrid workplace, the marketing communications team was challenged to develop an internal newsletter that would ensure that no matter the size of our company or location of our employees, meaningful stories of Benesch’s people and projects would be heard in every office.
The team developed a concept that spoke to our brand purpose of creating spaces, providing connections and improving infrastructure to enhance mobility, sustainability and safety in communities nationwide. We used in-house copy and design expertise to launch The Benesch Beat, a biannual internal newsletter. To ensure equal representation of our offices and services, we conducted interviews with project teams, collaborated with support departments and even took to the field to see our people in action.
The result was a 14-page digital magazine that captures what’s at the core of Benesch—our people and our projects. It injects heart, humor and a healthy dose of storytelling into the inbox of every employee. With each issue published, readership climbs, employees learn about new aspects of the firm and teams are inspired to share their stories.
