In 2012, HNTB launched its original HNTB Publications App for iPhones and iPads using Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. In early 2016, Adobe upgraded its DPS software, providing capabilities which exceeded HNTB’s digital publishing needs and budget.

As a result, HNTB needed to select an alternative software to publish its publications app, and it saw this as an opportunity to redesign and relaunch the program.

After weeks of research, the team chose Twixl Publishing as the platform, which offered the option to publish articles versus full publications, connect directly to HNTB.com and publish on both Apple and Android devices.

With a $50,000 budget and 6-month timeline, the HNTB team redesigned and re-launched the app. Today the app offers on-the-go access to a wide range of editorial, photography and other content highlighting HNTB’s expertise in helping clients deliver infrastructure solutions. Content is now article-based and categorized by industry for quick and easy access to a wide range of information. Users can now easily share articles through social media and email. Additionally, it gives the HNTB team another tool to strategically share content ahead of print, and gives the client leaders a tool to showcase our work.

Since launching internally and externally with a minimal ($4000 budget). The original version achieved, on average, 10-20 unique downloads per issue. As of mid-March, the app has attracted 359 unique users who viewed more than 600 pages and has received positive feedback from numerous stakeholders.
