Since 1937, Hensel Phelps has taken pride in its commitment to “the Hensel Phelps Way” (People, Process, Partnership and Technology). Sadly, our old employee portal encompassed none of those values.
Dated and difficult to use, Hensel Phelps’ intranet had become a joke amongst employees. Accessible only by desktop, old news flooded the homepage, critical links were broken and the search function would yield anything but what one needed. Many of these frustrations would cause well-intended employees to take matters into their own hands, creating their own tools and processes, ultimately defeating the purpose of a company intranet.
To truly understand the project at hand and what it would take to create an optimal experience, Hensel Phelps took to the streets to hear from those that mattered most—its people. This employee-led discovery directed the design and technology of the new intranet, ultimately creating the foundation of CORE, Hensel Phelps’ new employee portal.
CORE, named by Hensel Phelps employees through a naming competition, is a modern intranet designed to meet employee job needs and personal and career goals. In addition to housing all company resources in one location, which had never been done before, Hensel Phelps finally had a platform to act as its main communication hub—delivering news and information to its employees on-demand.
Coming up on its one-year anniversary, CORE has positively contributed to the overall success of Hensel Phelps. Used by thousands of employees daily, we are proud to finally have a portal that reflects our mantra.
