Creative Brief
A 2017 audit of internal communications at M+A Architects found that staff were unsatisfied with communication from leadership of the company, wanting to understand more about the company’s goals, strategic direction, standards, staff composition, news and changing company policies. Staff did not trust the information on our current antiquated, seldom-updated intranet. Furthermore, the problem was escalated by the rapid growth of the company, increasing in staff by 24% in 2017, and now with two offices and the potential for more. A centralized location was urgently needed for company policies, resources, staff directory and news to live and be accessed by all staff — especially new employees — at any time and from any location.
As a result of the audit, the firm realized the need for a high functioning tool for fluid communication as well as a plan for crucial information to be distributed and continuously updated and accurate. The decision was made to create a new infrastructure for the company’s internal communications — a new intranet. The marketing team completed this task by first creating an internal communications plan, then funneling feedback into intranet functions while reflecting the company’s brand and culture on the site.
User experience was a key priority for the project, creating a site that was user-friendly and provided resources and content staff needed. The outcome was an internal communications tool, we call ‘Matter’ that is now a sought-after asset, where staff can locate each resource in one location while finding updated news and communication there.
