Creative Brief
Barton Malow’s intranet, Dirt, and its accompanying weekly newsletter, The Dig, have become a lasting force in not only highlighting all the incredible things we do as a company, but all the incredible things our team members do individually. Though Dirt has existed for several years, it received a refresh in 2017 that changed the look, feel and purpose of the site.
The journey began when Senior Director of Marketing and Communications (MARCOM), Dana Galvin Lancour, attended an intranet workplace summit where Habanero, a Toronto-based digital consultant, presented a roadmap on humanizing the workplace. Updating Dirt, which was once cumbersome and slow, became a crucial aspect in a company-wide effort to create a more efficient workplace. We did just that.
Nearly a year after the plan was conceived, Barton Malow’s MARCOM and Information Technology teams worked in tandem with Habanero to develop a SharePoint site that was sleek, modern and above all, efficient. Whether it’s a personal profile of an employee or a library of standard practices for teams to learn from, Dirt has become a can’t-miss for our team members.
The accompanying newsletter, The Dig, takes it a step further. Each week we recap the best stories, events, practices and recognitions (birthdays and work anniversaries) to give our team members consistent information about the company. Put together, these initiatives have helped develop an interactive digital culture where employees can connect with the company and with each other.
