The result of an unusual competitive pursuit process, this piece successfully synthesized several dimensions of our firm (brand voice; creative design + storytelling; conceptualization process) in a printed document that formed the basis of selection for a multi-million dollar hospitality/entertainment destination.
Fierce competition between invited firms; we were the newcomer and underdog within this segment of market specialization. This was David vs. Goliath: our 100-person firm vs. internationally-recognized household names.
Through a qualifications-based selection months prior, we were invited "to compete". Once invited, we were limited to one opportunity to meet the client (site tour) and understand goals. Project award would be determined through printed delivery of design concept and narrative. No interview.
Our deliverable had to express collaborative visioning and design capabilities while clearly articulating "the big idea" that would drive the project's design and development. It had to be grounded in deep industry knowledge and reflect our passion for expressing the vision/ intent of the project: "the future of space".
Our process was steeped in research. We embraced the sensory aspects of space travel (direct project reference) and sought to convey high tech and high touch. Graphically, we emphasized clean lines and shifts in shape and form, playing with geometric angles and fluid organization of elements. We developed narrative that unfolded our story of design, inspiration and knowledge with dynamic force. We used the opportunity to demonstrate the "newcomer" was a contender: we listen, innovate, design and delight... we are the firm of choice. We won the job!
