The overall idea and goals for the Build Smart Blog are unique for our industry. The blog design doesn’t mirror our current Suffolk-branded website, but instead has its own unique and forward-thinking design as well as an easily navigable functionality. Its only purpose is to share cool things happening in the construction industry with a crowd of online visitors made up of a lot of fellow innovators and hopefully a developer here and there. Unlike our competitors, we don’t use this blog for self-promotion; in fact the majority of stories have nothing to do with Suffolk or the projects we work on. Its objective is simply to push out valuable content that people will want to read and will position Suffolk as an innovative, smart company that is thinking outside of the box, transforming the construction experience, and looking to the future. We know the value and prevalence of online networking and have therefore really focused on growing our online audience. So in addition to the initial blog launch tactics, we also hosted an internal incentivized contest where we gave Apple Watches away to random blog subscribers, followed by a similar Apple Watch giveaway for external subscribers. We also host ongoing one-on-one social media trainings that teach employees how to update/begin social media accounts on LinkedIn and Twitter and show them how to engage with and share our blog posts to continue to expand the reach, views, and visitors to our blog each month.
