We knew our 2020 Holiday Video needed to be different than any we had done before, as it was a year unlike any we had experienced before. Despite challenges of 2020, we decided to focus on “silver linings” that came from it – babies born, projects completed, safety measures taken.
To get an accurate representation of employees’ experiences, we launched an all-company survey with 20 questions about the year. Employees enthusiastically responded, and even the survey created a positive momentum and opportunity to reflect on highs and lows. Once we finalized the survey results, we lined up overall numbers with corresponding video and photography footage to help tell the story: JE Dunn’s “2020 By the Numbers.”
Remaining fully aware that people’s struggles ranged from small inconveniences to major hardships, we paid particular attention to the tone of the video. The first cut came across too light-hearted, and we had to revamp by altering music, pace, and flow. We worked through a few versions before landing on a good balance of positivity, while being cognizant of the heartache people had also endured.
The result was an uplifting, heartwarming piece that focused on togetherness and positivity, complete with both serious and comical moments. The video was honest, genuine, and relatable – an accurate reflection of JE Dunn’s people and culture. We wanted a sincere way to connect with clients, partners, and employees at the end of 2020, and at the end we had a personal video message from our CEO.
