Creative Brief
The National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) will be a place that educates, preserves, and celebrates the rich influence Black people have had on America’s music. Our goal of this proposal was to celebrate the mission of the NMAAM of being the only museum dedicated to preserving the legacy and celebrating the accomplishments of the many music genres created, influenced, or inspired by African Americans.
Our team believed that the approach towards the NMAAM wayfinding and donor display proposal should embody the soul and creativity of the music itself. With this idea in mind, we explored inventive packaging ideas influenced by the history of African American music and culture. After sharing our ideas and research, the team decided to build the iconic boombox from ‘Do the Right Thing’. The final design appealed to our target audience in more ways than one – it appealed to trends within the music industry, showcased our branding capabilities, revealed we are a team who examines each process, and goes beyond what is expected.
We excitedly anticipate the opening of the NMAAM in 2019 where visitors will be able to absorb the sights and sounds of a center dedicated exclusively to music.
