Creative Brief
The construction industry has faced a significant challenge in recruiting people to join our industry. The 2008 recession resulted in many people abandoning the trades and taking up new employment elsewhere. Construction has traditionally been a career that has been passed down from generation to generation and with fewer people working in the trades, it has resulted in fewer young people joining the trades.
In an effort to bring more awareness to the family-sustaining career opportunities in the construction industry and to explain that a college degree is not always necessary, we created career path brochures intended for the youth audience. Not only were these brochures meant to bring awareness to these young people, but we designed them to also help catch the attention of parents. With bright colors, sturdy paper stock (to withstand backpacks), and an emphasis around earning potential, these pieces help explain the many career paths available in construction.
These pieces are used in our school outreach opportunities and serve as both a take-home piece and a detailing opportunity for our employees. Two brochures were created for this campaign – one details the trade/union path and the other, an office career path. Simple graphics and easy-to-read charts give insight into the many benefits of working in construction. The ultimate intention goes beyond recruiting more employees to our organization, but to encourage youth into the industry in general.
